Question for you all...
Apr. 11th, 2005 @ 09:45 pm
I am currently working on a script for a DW fan film called "The Forbidden Vortex," which starts at the beginning of the Doctor's 13th and Final lifespan. I have made the decision that, among other nods to the past, I am "bringing back" K-9 in the story. As things look now, it will be a newer version of K-9, and due to probable budgetary limitations, doing an absolutely screen-accurate copy of the original would be extremely costly and impractical.
My conundrum is this: I want K-9 in this story, but I've seen my share of fan films where K-9 turned out to be an overturned cardboard shipping crate covered with Duct tape...
Obviously, I would prefer to avoid making my K-9 look like that.
So I put to you all... Should I start from scratch, so to speak, and re-imagine K-9, and if so, what kinds of things would you like to see improved, added to, or removed from K-9?
Oh, and when I get home, I've got the coolest pic to post I found on the net today! I should probably cross-post it to the Hartnell group... you'll see why later ;-)
If you have a budget of some sort, I know a professional modeller who is also a Who fan. I am sure he could come up with something pretty neat for you.
Where are they located, and any idea what kind of cash outlay they would be asking for?
We're talking uber-shoestring budget, here, so I'm interested, but nervous ;-)
I'm not sure, but I can ask. How much are you willing to spend? If I know that when I speak to him it might help ;-)
I found k-9 plans online yesterday. LINK is http://www.retrofire.com/showthread.php?t=27
They aren't much but something to go on. I wouldn't mind a new sort of K-9 though. What about hovercraft technology? :P If they did it in the 70's with starwars you should be able to do it in your back yard now. ;P
Have you given any thought to using a CGI version of K-9? I know next to nothing about incorporating computer-generated images with live footage, but I've seen enough examples to know it's not beyond the realm of possibility for the hobbyist filmmaker.
If you want to go that route, you can download a model of K-9 in Lightwave format
